If you're working for yourself no one is going to ask to see your credentials. Know what you are signing up for If you decide to get certified as an English teacher be wary of random certificates especially ones you can get online. Most schools will require a minimum of hours of certification. Most reputable schools in the offline world require you to have one of the only two English teaching qualifications, Cambridge or Trinity. These are week-long intensive courses which include at least one hour of assessed teaching practice. You'll spend time on the course learning about language theory, classroom management, and Phone Number List more. You will spend a lot of time observing qualified teachers and students teaching. Of course, weeks are still a short period of time. But one of these qualifications is just a starting point. You will develop your skills and experience on the job with support and feedback from other teachers. At the same time, at least when I was doing it, I was mainly training teachers to do group teaching offline. Not much is said about teaching which is how a lot of online teaching works. But it’s still useful to get training support and feedback before you start working with paying students. Additionally the course has evolved since then to include online teaching. Do your due diligence No matter what, do your due diligence before you spend money on a teaching certificate and don’t be afraid to ask what you’ll actually get.
